Ashby Road

Did I ever tell you I grew up on Ashby Road (oh....it might be important for those who only know me as Kendra Johnson that my maiden name is Ashby.) I grew up in a little town in Central Utah called Delta. It is about 90 miles southwest of Provo. It is mainly a farming community however there is a large power plant there as well. My father was an alfalfa farmer primarily, though we did grow wheat and corn as rotation crops. The little country road we lived on was named Ashby road because for many, many, many years there were just 3 families that lived on that road. The Ken Ashby family (us), Orran and Stella Ashby (my grandparents. They only lived there in the summer. The lived in Phoenix, AZ in the winter) and the Carl Ashby family (my great uncle and his 8 daughters and 1 son). There was also a cattle feed yard that Uncle Carl ran and we supplied the feed for called, "Ashby Valley View Farms." So it was named Ashby road. Over time more people built houses on that little dirt road and eventually it was paved.
Below are 5 of those Ashby kids that grew up on the road. Left to right, Julie Ashby Kirkman, Kaye Ashby Stevens, Gayle Ashby Smith, Kendra Ashby Johnson and Kevin Ashby.

With only one brother to carry on the "Ken Ashby" line of the Ashby name he had alot of pressure to produce some male offspring. Needless to say, he did a great job. (Aren't they handsome!)

Here is the house I grew up in

And here is the view from our front yard.
