Maiya DeAnn turns 6!

I can't believe Maiya is already six. It feels like she should be just turning 4-ish. I don't feel like I've had her that long. But alas, it is true. Six she is.

Ever since her 5th birthday she has been talking about the birthday party she wants for her 6th birthday. We've avoided the party in years past because it just seemed too much. But this year there was no getting out of it. Her heart was set and she was determined to have a party. We checked into all the normal kid party places (Chuck E. Cheese, the Bounce House, Build-a-Bear etc). But after discussing with Maiya she simply wanted friends to come and play. She didn't care where. So we opted for a park here in Clermont. Originally we set a "5 friend" limit but we soon realized that was going to be impossible. We ended up sending out about 15 invitations (Maiya didn't want to leave any of her girl classmates out) and had about 8 girls come. We had pizza and cupcakes for dessert. We had a craft project for them to do. We made some adorable little bead braclets and then let them play and play and play on the playground. All in all it was fun and not nearly as much work at I thought it would be.

Maiya was so excited to have "Happy Birthday" sung to her and blow out the birthday candle.

I had to include this picture because of the great bond Maiya and this cute little girl, Ella Jackson, have. Ella is in the Clermont ward (we share a meeting house with that ward) and they were in the same VPK (volunteer Pre-Kindergarten.....it's what Florida calls "preschool") class together last year. They became BFFs and have remained so even though they go to different schools this year. Maiya told me that her dream in life is to grow up and be roommates with Ella at BYU. Too funny.
